Excellent machining & finish of metal parts. Rack gears have protective metal cover. Silk-smooth slide action with no binding. Ingenious 2-pointer dial for inch & millimeter readings. Pointers align at 16 places along the slide length. I checked them all and they are all exactly where they should be. Correlation of inch & millimeter readings is within about .005 mm/0.0002". Scale marks and numbers look to be silk-screen paint which may wear over time and not survive solvent cleaning. Probably not repairable if damaged - you should get a Starrett or similar (about $90) if you want USA factory repair service. For $30 this caliper is an excellent buy for light-duty home & shop use. (The math is 1" = 25.4 mm. Inch pointer makes 10 revolutions and mm pointer makes 25.4/2 = 12.7 revolutions per inch. The 2 pointers align at N x 360/972 where N is a whole number from 1 to 16. First alignment N = 1 at 0.3704"/9.4074 mm and last N = 16 at 5.9259"/150.5185 mm. If you calculate and check all 16 locations, this caliper is exactly correct. The accuracy of the rack and dial gears is superb!)
